egip@jrc.it     The Commission intends to use this invitation to tender to prepare the implementation of the future spatial data Infrastructure (SDI) within the Commission, ultimately to become the EU node for the broader European SDI.

The call for tender specifically addresses the following objectives:

• to analyse the state of the play concerning GI and SDI components within the Commission services in view of an "Inspire"-compliant Commission-SDI development;
• to test and demonstrate the feasibility of interoperability-based solutions for sharing geographical information and services within the Commission"s distributed environment between 1 pilot Directorate-General of the Commission and GISCO, respecting the "Inspire" principles, taking into account available reports, as well as recent developments in the field of GI standardisation.
• to develop a migration path for existing Commission GI services towards an "Inspire"-compliant architecture, taking into account the organisational framework. This includes an evaluation of the organisational, technical and financial boundary conditions for successful implementation of this interoperability-based pilot, and an analysis of any problems and obstacles which might be encountered during the subsequent large-scale implementation of "Inspire"-based solutions throughout the whole of the Commission.
